Today, Mr. IT and I fled the city to get some fresh country air. We went to his family’s lake house on Greenwood Lake. On our way there, he put on the Sirius Sinatra station (he likes lithium, but he knows that Frank is my favorite!) and “So Nice” by Astrud Gilberto came on. It was just so fitting! Driving through the woods, listening to one of my favorite songs with him.
When we got to the lake house, he and I had lunch, and his parents eventually joined us. They are so nice to me. Tomorrow his dad is taking us to the Yankee game. I really feel like they want me to be a part of their family. Anyway, the four of us spent the afternoon on their boat. I was really nervous because I had worn a sundress (way to be prepared!) and I hadn’t been on a boat since I was 10. But it was a great afternoon. Drank, snacked, talked, listened to music, got a decent tan. Truly a great time!
When we got back to the house, his parents started cooking dinner. I felt really silly, because they didn’t need help, and you know how that is, ladies… when you want to make a good impression on the parents, but there’s no way to do so.
After dinner, Mr. IT and I headed back home. On our way, we drove on this road that’s nicknamed “skyline drive”??? You can see the NY skyline in the distance. It was really a beautiful drive!
This trip made me realize a few things. For a while I have used my city as a security blanket. Almost like if I step out of the metro area for more than a week the world will end, you know? This sounds so silly, but with the exception of visiting my parents, I never wanted to leave Hoboken or Manhattan. But now I think I have another good reason for venturing outside of my city.
